Varial is about movement and reversal. It’s a controlled divergence: motion that splits from itself and lands back together. We make films on that principle. Every story we take on has a visible arc and a buried one. The visible arc is the fire, the diagnosis, the phone call, the thing everyone in the room can see happening. The buried one is slower, and it’s the reason we tell the story.

We are drawn to people under pressure who change in a direction nobody predicted, including them. Some of those stories are sacred and the rest just won't leave us alone. We've followed a CEO rebuilding a pier, a painter who ran back into a burning house, a cyclist chasing a record on an empty stomach, and a father and son who can't get through one car ride.

Narrative, documentary, commercial.
The subject changes. The shape doesn't.

Peter Borrud founded Varial Films in 2013. He grew up in Minnesota, directed his first feature before he was eighteen, and studied film in Southern California.
